Measles outbreak declared on Merseyside

A measles outbreak has been declared on Merseyside. There are 13 confirmed and 16 suspected cases ranging in age from nine months to adults aged in their 20s. Six people, four children and two adults, required treatment in hospital. This compares to just one confirmed case on Merseyside in the first six weeks of 2011 and one in the corresponding period of 2010.

Update on Legionnaires’ Cluster Associated with a Hotel in Spain

10 February 2012, 1400hrs. The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has this week been alerted by the Spanish public health authorities about a further case of Legionnaires’ Disease in a UK resident who stayed at the Diamante Beach Hotel in Calpe, Costa Blanca, as well as two French cases. This brings the total number of UK residents associated with this cluster to 12, with three deaths.

The practice has a comprehensive confidentiality policy. An abridged version is on display in the waiting rooms at the surgery. A full copy can be made available to patients if they wish.

The practice takes the responsibility of confidentiality seriously; all of the staff are trained to respect this and to ensure that patient confidentiality is of paramount importance. If you wish to speak to a member of staff privately, please ask and a room will be made available.

Suggestions & Complaints

We make every effort to give the best service possible to everyone who attends our practice.

However, we are aware that things can go wrong resulting in a patient feeling that they have a genuine cause for complaint. If this is so, we would wish for the matter to be settled as quickly, and as amicably, as possible.

Simply contact the Practice Manager and she will set all the necessary wheels in motion. Further written information is available on the complaints procedure from reception. We are continually striving to improve our service. Any helpful suggestions would be much appreciated and a suggestion box is located in the waiting area.

The surgery also has a patient forum group which meets every 3months. We are always looking for new members to join. If you are interested please ask at reception for further details.

Oxgate Gardens Medical Centre supports the Government's NHS Zero tolerance campaign. Therefore, in order to protect both the staff and other patients, the following inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated: -

RACISM
RUDENESS
THREATENING OR ABUSIVE BEHAVIOUR DRUNKENESS
VERBAL OR PHYSICAL ABUSE OF ANY KIND

We further do not tolerate bullying or vandalism. All acts of criminal violence or aggression will be notified to the police immediately Such behaviour has a marked effect on staff and other patients and therefore, where such behaviour is observed, steps will be taken to remove the patient from our list and ensuring removal of those involved from the premises
